We really wanted Nurse Emine, who has been working at İRENBE for many years, to be featured in this magazine and to share her story with you. Why? Because she is a special mother. She is a strong mother, and at the same time, an exemplary mother with the struggle she has gone through… Here is the heartfelt story of dear Nurse Emine, who has two beautiful daughters and who opens her heart sincerely…

How would you describe motherhood?

For me, motherhood is like happiness, sadness, fear, anxiety, and patience always walking hand in hand at home… Because I am the mother of two daughters, one of whom is disabled. My eldest daughter is 14 years old, autistic, and has neuromotor developmental delay. With her, I have always experienced the peak of motherhood. I have learned very well what it means to be brave, patient, and unfortunately, to accept. My 2-year-old daughter, on the other hand, has brought back feelings I thought were “very far from me” and became my reason to live. So even though motherhood creates an emotional complexity, I know that I am also the solution.

How did you decide to have a second child?

We didn’t think about it for many years. It was a difficult decision. We always had the fear that the same thing might happen. For years, we never discussed having a second child, focusing on her treatment and hoping she would get better one day. Despite everything, after 10 years, we decided to have a sibling. Thankfully, everything went well, and our second child was born healthy.

As a working mother, how do you make time for them? What do you enjoy doing together?

Like every working mother, I have my difficulties. Because they both live in different worlds. The things that make them happy, what they enjoy, and what makes them angry are all different. Even though we often have to spend individual time, we love playing ball together, watching cartoons, and traveling.

As a nurse at İrenbe for many years, do you empathize with patients, especially those undergoing IVF treatment? Is there anything you would like to say?

I am also a member of the İrenbe family and very happy to be here. “Empathy” is indispensable in our profession… I also experienced a pregnancy loss before my second daughter. This situation deeply affected our already emotional life. Thanks to these experiences, we can better understand our patients’ happiness, sadness, and disappointments. We are together in both joy and sorrow…

These treatments are long, very challenging, and require patience. Sometimes they end with joy, sometimes with sadness. No matter what, we should never lose hope.

What are your dreams for Berrak and Derin Irmak?

I actually have very big dreams for Selin Berrak, but unfortunately, they are difficult to achieve… I think every parent in my situation would feel the same. I only wish for her to be healthy and to always encounter good people.

As for Derin Irmak, perhaps I place the hardest responsibility on her. I hope she will never let go of her sister’s hand. Of course, it is her life, her choice… Like every mother, I wish above all that they stay healthy and never lose values such as love and respect.
